An Exercise for Setting Effective Goals

Now we’ve covered examples of both ineffective and effective goals. It’s time for you to write down some of your own goals. You may have had these things in your head for a long time but never bothered to write them down before. Remember to include the three components of an effective goal we covered earlier in this segment. Also, I’ve listed some additional tips below to use when writing powerful and achievable goals for you:

  • Shoot beyond the moon and stars! Most people only set goals they are sure they can achieve. Challenge your self to be daring and make your goals big as well as worthwhile.
  • Plan to achieve your goals far enough ahead. A good goal should be doable within 2-5 years from the date you make it. You should give yourself enough time to plan backwards and set incremental tasks along the way that will enable you to achieve your goals.
  • Read your goals daily. Don’t just write them down and put them away somewhere. They should be posted where they can remind you daily of the sweet reward you are striving for!

So let’s put what we have just learned to use! The next two pages contain blanks that will allow you to write down five personal and five professional goals. Try to keep any goals concerning money on your professional goal list. Try to keep your personal goals completely focused on you and your own self-growth and well being. There is one last thing. Do this exercise before going on to the next segment! Trust me on this. It’s for your own good!

Examples of Proper, Effective Goals

Now, I want to show you some examples of more effective goals. Notice right away (even the fact they are spelled out on paper) that they contain the three key components of all effective goals. Do you see how much more effective these goals would be for the person who writes them?

‘It is July, 2009. I am on the first day of a cruise to Bermuda with my husband. I can see dolphins jumping along side the ship and I squeeze my husband’s hand in excitement as I direct his attention to them. A warm breeze is blowing in the air and I brush my hair out of my eyes and breathe in the salty aroma.

‘It is October, 2010. I am standing in the living room of the dream home I’ve always wanted in on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. The rough hewn log cabin walls perfectly match the rustic, lodge style décor that fills the room. I look around at the framed photos of my family, and even a great shot taken on our vacation to the Grand Canyon earlier this year. I look out the enormous cathedral window that covers an entire wall and see nothing but the beautiful blue lake surrounded by trees in their spectacular fall colors of yellow, orange, and blazing red.

‘It is January, 2012. I am the CEO of my own computer software business. I work four hours each day, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and spend the rest of my time with my toddler, strolling in the park, or reading her fairytales at the library. I earn $8,000 each month between video consultation fees and royalties and am financially independent.’

‘It is May, 2010. After taking a course on profiting from foreclosures, I now own a 40-unit apartment building across town that earns me $6,000 each month in positive revenue, above and beyond the bills it generates. It allows me to provide the most quality yet affordable housing in my town and I have many more applicants than apartments!

Do you see the powerful difference between the goals just listed and the first set of goals mentioned? Let me quickly review some of the key differences in the two sets. First, the proper goals were extremely specific. You could actually picture in your mind being with the author at the point of achievement, couldn’t you? That is a powerful accomplishment in its self! Second, the proper goals are all dated in the future, and written in present tense. Writing them this way creates the feeling that they have already occurred. They put their authors into the satisfying mindset of having already achieved their goals. Third, proper goals are written down. Don’t underestimate the importance of this last component!

*Note: All of these proper goals are written in positive terms. For example, a goal to ‘become a non-smoker’ is more effective than a goal to ‘quit smoking’ because the word ‘quit’ conveys a subtle yet negative quality to the goal.

Examples of Improper or Ineffective Goals

The best way to teach you how to prepare proper goals for yourself is to show you examples of goals that are both ineffective and that don’t have the components we just reviewed. You will typically come across goals such as these because their authors don’t know how to write proper, effective goals. While it’s better to have any goal then no goals at all, there is no doubt that the examples below have a lot of room for improvement. At first glance, they may seem acceptable, but they are all missing key components. Can you identify what is missing in each goal?

‘I’m going to get rich quick.’

‘My goal is to exercise.’

‘I want a better job.’

‘I want to get married.’

‘I hope to be able to afford a nice vacation.’

‘I want to buy a new house.’

‘My goal is to be wealthy.’

‘I’m going to quit smoking.’

And, every unwritten goal!!

Have you noticed the pattern? Stating a goal like ‘I’m going to get rich quick’ is not specific enough. This statement keeps the goal foggy because you haven’t explained within the goal what ‘getting rich quick’ really means! In addition, the goals above speak of the future. They are not written as if they exist right now!

The Anatomy of an Effective Goal

While goals have many positive attributes, I want to focus on the three key components of the most effective goals. I like to call this the ‘anatomy’ of a goal. Similar to the function of the human anatomy, if one of the key parts is missing, the system will not work as it should.

The first component of an effective goal is that it is extremely specific. There is no such thing as overkill here. Not just a new job, but what town will it be located in? At what exact address? What will your title be? How many people will report to you? What will your office look like, the color scheme, size, number of windows? The more specific the better. The biggest mistake people make in writing their goals is that they are too vague. Writing specific goals makes them appear more real from the start.

The second component of an effective goal is that it is stated in the present tense. Don’t use phrases like ‘I will’ or ‘I want to’ when writing your goals. Instead, state a goal as if you were living it right now in present day. For examples of this, review the properly written effective goals on page 7. You’ll notice that these goals are vivid, specific, and written as if they were occurring right now! Well stated goals like these can be powerful motivators on your path to success!

The third component of effective goals is that they are always written! If a goal is worth pursuing, it’s worth writing down, don’t you think? You will be more accountable to yourself for getting them done if you write your goals down on paper! Remember, if it’s worth pursuing, it is worth writing down! This is a crucial step along the path of success and an important part of what it takes to create effective goals.

Foreclosures, Short Sales, Bankruptcy And Your Credit

This has been hard times for millions of Americans. So many people have been affected by the economy and for whatever reason, were unable to save their home.

Some have become so overwhelmed with debt they made the decision to file bankruptcy. While I am not advising you to ever do that, one must seek out a qualified attorney who can assist them to make sure this is the best choice for you.

While foreclosures, short sales and bankruptcy may have crippled you mentally, it doesn’t mean it has to cripple your ability to get back your life. While foreclosures and short sales can be removed from your credit report, there is no guarantee they will. It is primarily based on the lender and there willingness to allow it to be removed. Regardless if you have a foreclosure, short sale or bankruptcy, we have the ability to assist in helping you to establish and reestablish credit and get your life back. This is why you use ExcelYourCreditScore.com to guide you and help you get your life back. The fatal mistake people who have these blemishes on their credit report make is, they think they need to wait until the time has elapsed when it is suppose to be removed from their credit report. That simply is not true. You should start now.

Why 95% Of Our Customers See A Huge Increase In The First 30-45 Days In The Program

Here is what we do to get your credit scores up in the most effective, efficient and cost effective way possible.

ExcelYourCreditScore.com obtains your credit report and we build you an online tri-merge credit file. Your online tri-merge credit file shows you what accounts were on each of the three credit bureaus when we started, which accounts have been updated to a better status, and which have been deleted from the credit file all together. We identify every line item with the amount of point deductions per trade line, per credit bureau and then post recommendations on what specifically needs to be done in order to capture those deductions. The benefit here is we do the work for you but the recommendations allow you to see what was costing you these points so you never run into this problem again, this is called credit management and this is part of the credit education we provide.

Example of a tri-merge credit file:

ExcelYourCreditScore.com then builds you an online tri-merge credit analysis that you have the ability to simply click on each line item and it posts a recommendation and explains the steps we will take to capture these points. It lists the credit bureau, if it’s long term or short term and the amount of points that can be recovered. Before you say anything, we already know…this is the most incredible system ever. Here is an example of an online tri-merge credit analysis.

ExcelYourCreditScore.com then will match the Tri-Merge Credit File with our exclusive Creditor Statistical Calculations. This tells us which creditors respond more or less favorably to the credit bureaus’ request for account verification so we can effectively and efficiently pinpoint which line items to go after first in order to get your credit scores to go up in the shortest time possible.

Every ExcelYourCreditScore.com customer will have access with a secure, private username and password to review your file 24/7. Every time we make adjustments to your file, you will receive an email notification as to exactly what points have been recovered and the next time your file will be reviewed. We do NOT charge you any additional fees for deletions or improvements to your credit, unlike a credit repair company that charges you additional fees per trade line per credit bureau to have items removed or improved to a better status and we manage your credit for an entire year at one flat fee.

How To Improve Your Credit

Wanting to improve your credit and actually doing it are totally two different things. First and foremost you have to have a big enough why. You have to take the initiative to take action to seek the knowledge of someone who can help you. ExcelYourCreditScore.com can help you. So let’s do a test to see how big your “WHY” is to have better credit and get your life back. Have you taken the free credit evaluation at www.ExcelYourCreditScore.com/evaluation.com?
